STOTT PILATES® Celebrating Twenty Years

STOTT PILATES® Celebrating Twenty Years

Necessity is the mother of all invention. That is what Lindsay and Moira Merrithew learned when they first started in the Pilates industry in the mid-1980s. Moira needed a reformer to train her clients so Lindsay designed one. Twenty years and a lot of reformers later, the Merrithews, founders of STOTT PILATES ® are instrumental individuals in the Pilates industry. Download the PDF about the Merrithews and the history of STOTT PILATES ® in an article published in the January/February 2008 issue of Fitness Business Canada. It’s a very interesting article. Embrace your fears and you will be grateful!

Embrace your fears and you will be grateful!

Much to my own dismay I am addicted to “Dancing with the Stars” the ABC reality show. I didn’t watch it for the first few seasons but got hooked when Emmitt Smith, the former Dallas Cowboy running back was on the show and became a contender for the coveted “Mirror ball” trophy. He won! It was awesome to watch him perform in an event that was totally out of his comfort zone. Ever since, I have faithfully watched (on DVR of course—who has two hours to sit in front of the TV?) I watched the results show this week and one of the contestants, Adam Corolla, got me thinking. He was voted off (I guess it’s better to say that he didn’t garner enough votes to stay) and during his exit interview he looked directly at... Continue ...

Liz Koch Teleclass on the Psoas Muscle

Liz Koch Teleclass on the Psoas Muscle

I am always trying to find time to go to one more training seminar. I love learning, don’t you? I think I will always feel like I just can’t get enough new information. Most seminars in our field sound exciting and always have tons of content we all need. Well, Liz Koch, who has spent 30 years teaching and writing about the iliopsoas muscle, is making it easier for us. I have wanted to attend her seminars for years, and it just hasn’t worked out logistically. She is hosting her first teleseminar on the Psoas muscle. If you have an interest or would like a deeper understanding of the Psoas muscle, you can attend this from the comfort of your own home. It starts next Wednesday, April 9th for five consecutive weeks... Continue ...

“Spring” into action and motivate your clients

“Spring” into action and motivate your clients

The days are longer and are finally getting warmer and for those of you living in colder climates, you are beginning to shed the extra clothes you’ve been wearing to stay warm since the fall. Spring is like a breath of fresh air—you feel invigorated and excited. Let that excitement spread to your clients. Make sure you let them know how happy you are to see them each time they walk in the door. March is just about the time when those folks who made New Year’s resolutions about losing weight and getting into shape begin to lose their motivation and drop off. It’s important to keep them interested in their workouts. If they don’t seem excited, find out why and make it your job to keep them coming back. You already... Continue ...

“In the Know” in the Pilates industry

“In the Know” in the Pilates industry

What is going on in the Pilates industry? Better yet…what is NOT going on in the Pilates industry? Our industry is exploding and we want to keep you “in the know”. If you are in the sports arena and you haven’t tried Pilates, chances are, you have thought about it. Pilates is the missing piece to many sports enthusiasts programs. I have come across many Pilates websites geared to one specific sport including tennis, horseback riding, kayaking, golf and more. It is exciting and we are working to bring you more of this exciting training information. Hear it from those in the industry who are already practicing what works. I recently wrote about golf and Pilates for Pilates Digest and the March 2008 issue of Golf... Continue ...
