Pregnant Pilates Instructor

I have plans to get conceived and worry that once I am pregnant, I will not be able to teach as many classes / sessions as compared to now. I'm worried about not being to teach mat class as I need to demonstrate more as compared to Pilates apparatus session. I understand that one should not do flexion in 2nd trimester onwards as rectus abdominals start to separate and will be pretty tough if one needs to squat and stand numerous times when cueing. When that happens, my concern is whether it is possible to get a volunteer in a mat class to demonstrate to the whole class when I guide him / her through. Does this work? Pls advise if there are other workable ways to teach when a Pilates Instructor is conceived. Thanks alot.

You will definitely have to modify your teaching throughout your pregnancy, even with a healthy pregnancy. I have been pregnant twice and both pregnancies were completely different, even as a healthy person. I taught my entire first pregnancy, but still used a volunteer to demonstrate certain exercises in the second half of my pregnancy. This worked well, especially for exercises on my back and flexion. My second pregnancy, I had to stop teaching, b/c of complications I was having with my pregnancy, so be prepared for either scenario. Either way, a volunteer to demonstrate is a great idea and you can still walk around, cue and help participants. Good luck!

Hi kranaudo, thanks for your advice. I have a much clearer picture what to expect if ever I get pregnant. Would love to know more about teaching Pilates through your experience when conceived if possible.
