Announcing Pilates Day® – May 2, 2009 Pilates Day was created by the PMA as a way to celebrate and raise the profile of Pilates and to bring the uninitiated into Pilates studios around the world. Pilates Day is an annual, international, community event celebrated on the first Saturday of May every year. The Pilates Day mission is to further the public’s appreciation and awareness of the Pilates Method through a multiplicity of events that are varied, innovative, and above all accessible and affordable for their communities. As a program of the Pilates Method Alliance, Pilates Day events are produced and hosted by PMA members. He founded BASI™ (Body Arts and Sciences, International) Pilates in 1989 and over the past 30 years, since he began his study in Pilates, he has made an indelible mark in the industry. “I have tried to keep BASI Pilates™ quite intimate,” says Rael, even with its spread across 20 countries. BASI Pilates™ is headquartered in Orange County, California and has 65 certifying locations. Although business requires that he still travel, Isacowitz prefers to stay close to home.
